Spending a Saturday exploring tourist attractions in Vienna

The woman hostess at the hotel-pension sold us farecards for the Vienna subway-bus-streetcar network (nice, because we were a little puzzled about how to buy them the night before) and we did a one-day exploration of Vienna — a lot of footwork but very fun. We took a lot of pictures and did a lot of looking.

A lot of stuff was closed in Vienna for vacations and because of the weekend. We were able to get a good look at everything and attend a concert performance of Strauss’s work at the Kursalon at Stadtpark where Strauss himself had performed 100 years ago. Although more of a tourist attraction, it was still quite fun.

Overview of stuff we did in Vienna, Saturday, July 16:

  1. Botanical garden (10,0 ATS)
  2. Bundesgarten Belvedere
  3. Schwartzbergenplatz (green at night)
  4. Karlsplatz (statue of Last Man and two people boinking)
  5. Staatsoper
  6. St. Michael Platz
  7. Peterskirche (inside: beautiful)
  8. Stefansdom (inside: like Disneyworld, but a little more crowded)
  9. Stadtpark
  10. Kursalon (bought Strauss tickets 280,0 ATS each);
  11. Subway-bus to Donauturm (40,0 ATS, excellent views of city and surroundings)
  12. Donaupark
  13. Universitätstrasse (ate at McDonald’s)
  14. Strausskonzert.

It was another scorcher in Vienna — I just can’t win no matter where I go. There was a lot of activity at the Altedonau: windsurfing, swimming, sunbathing, etc.

If I had one more day to spend in Vienna, I would have walked the entire ring. But I had an excellent time anyway.
