I know it’s been a while since I wrote a really witty post, so I thought I’d take a moment and write a not-so-witty one.
The past couple months have been the most hectic I’ve had in quite a while. Most of you already know I bought a new home at the end of April. It’s really working out well for me. I’ve finally unpacked most of the boxes, although the spare bedroom remains a complete disaster and my office needs another bookshelf and a filing cabinet. The front yard is still bare gravel, but I’m holding off for more pleasant weather before I get creative.
I formed a new company last month, which is a very exciting step forward for me. In the process of forming the company, I’ve been my own lawyer and accountant, so it’s been quite time-consuming. It seems like I get a new letter from the IRS every week. I requested an EIN, and within two weeks I had received two. The following week I received a third letter explaining why I received the second letter. Next month I become an employee of the new company, and then the fun really begins. Insurance, payroll, monthly tax deposits, quarterly filings, etc. This afternoon I made myself a calendar to keep track of it all.
Even with all that’s going on, I’ve managed to escape the Valley twice this month. Three weekends ago, I spent a fun weekend with my buddy in Pasadena. By some small miracle, the weekend ended without either of us puking. The following weekend, I made yet another trip to Las Vegas, this time with my girlfriend to see Jerry Seinfeld at Caesar’s Palace. If I get a few more free moments soon, I’ll devote an entire post to the trip. We had a fabulous time.
I haven’t done much flying recently, but I’m coming due for a biennial flight review. It’s hard to believe I’ve had a pilot certificate for two years now. I scheduled some time with a flight instructor over the next couple days to get the requirements out of the way. June weather means we’ll be flying very early in the morning.
I’m also in the market for a new car. I did a couple test drives yesterday evening, and I think I have the car picked out. I’m taking another test drive tomorrow afternoon, and then I’ll work out the details with the dealer. I won’t be taking delivery right away. More about that in a forthcoming post.
That’s the executive summary for now. I’ll keep you posted.
