I’ve been reminded that today, August 14, is the feast day of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
St. Maximilian Kolbe is probably best known for having given up his life to take the place of a fellow prisoner at Auschwitz, where he was martyred on this day in 1941. Perhaps less well known is that, prior to his arrest, he was an active ham radio operator with the call sign of SP3RN. Today he is a patron saint of amateur radio.
Since my wife and I are both amateur radio licensees, and since I took my call sign as a name for this blog, I think it’s right to take this time and place to honor him.
St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!
