Conventions matter

The petsitter, apparently an avid coffee drinker, left some half-and-half in our fridge while we were away. I almost threw it out Monday morning because, at first glance, I thought it was long past its expiration date.

Then I remembered where I was.

  1. Some countries reverse the day and month such as the UK. My mother would always put half and half in her coffee and about 1/3 pound of sugar too! But it was delicious. I use Truvia, tastes great and doesn’t mess up my blood glucose!

    1. I’ve spent most of my life on the MM/DD/YY convention, yet after just two weeks of checking expiration dates in the DD/MM/YY format, I had to pause to think. Now, as a computer programmer, I will often put dates in a YYYY/MM/DD format. Why? Because if I need to sort by date, I can then do a simple alphanumeric sort rather than having to parse the individual date elements out again.
